How did you end up in the air freight and logistics industry?

I was originally on the passenger side of the British Midland, and in 1992 they asked me to go to freight. I knew nothing about it at the time, but once I stepped in it, I loved it – and I’ve stayed since.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Worry about the things you can control. The things you can’t do? Don’t waste time stressing about them.

What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?

I changed my life at 33 completely. I gave up everything and moved to New York to start a new career.

If you could eat, live or kill with three people, who would they be?

My grandmother – I miss her every day. Margaret Thatcher, because I admired how right she was. And George Michael – his music was a big part of my teens in the 80s.

What is something people do not know about your resume?

My first work at 13 was in a butchery – at the moment Elvis Presley passed away.

If you could start a career in a completely different field, what would it be?

Politics.

Which superpower would you choose?

Time trip.

What is your proudest moment?

Buy my first home.

Any regret?

I don’t believe in regret. We all make decisions that, afterwards, were not the best. But I see them as learning experiences rather than regret.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Colin Firth – He is very English. But for my gray hair? Maybe George Clooney.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in air freight?

Be open to change. No two days will ever be the same.

How do you motivate your team?

Communication is key. Do not hide behind email – if you doubt, pick up the phone. And if you make a mistake, you should always own it.

One item without which you cannot travel?

My phone.

Favorite book?

Right now I read a Patterson novel called London. I love thrillers.

Who is your role model?

My parents.

What would you be called autobiography?

Work to be done.

Cats or dogs?

I have three dogs, but I’ve had cats before. People even say that I behave like a cat.

Are you an early rise or a night owl?

It changes with age. I was a night owl before, but now I’m an early take -off.

The best and worst purchase you’ve ever done?

Best? My house. Worst? We all buy things on a whim we later regret.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fruit and cheese.

Most used emojis?

I hate emojis! People need to use words more. But if I had to choose one, it’s probably the thumb.
