The new mass of Issa Rae Rae

A new Issa Rae Multi-Hiphall Pizzeria and its business partners should debut this weekend, bringing funk-inspired pizza to its popular coffee. During the day, the center space will continue as Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen. At night, from May 3, he turns to the city center, a pizza articulation that specializes in a type of Neapolitan style in California, the leopard of the stained crust of a wood brick oven.

“The day is really for the drip, and the night is for the pasta,” said co-owner Ajay Repran.

The partner of Plan and Business, Yonnie Hagos, launched Hilltop through her hospitality group, GVO, and quickly partnered with actor and producer “Insecuro”, whose mission of creating inclusive spaces aligned with theirs. In the following years, the trio launched four other locations at the top of the hill, the bar on the coverage of the lost center and an elegant restaurant, bar and Jazz Club called Somerville.

“We can’t think of a better partner and ambassador to our mission,” said Relat, who added that Rae is “widely involved” in the operations and planning of restaurant menu.

In the city center, the menu calls for almond wood from northern California, which is used on grid to the pour, white and steak as in the pizza oven on the grill. Chef Geter Atienza (previously broken Spanish, Bouchon Bistro, the fig) brushes his crust with garlic and spray oil with Parmesan and cover the pizzas with pepperoni, local honey and fresno Chiles; Cabbage -Fondue marketfly and truffle farmers; Bacon, manila clams and caramelized onions; and more. There are pasta, black angus meatballs, salads and crispy calamari.

Funk can be found in the taste of the restaurant – and in the air and on the walls.

“All GVO places have a very musical vibration curatorship, but funk is a genre we always like more,” said Raisn. “It was always the most fun, and [we’re] Marry our love for pizza with the free and advanced 70’s era and the accompanying music. ”

Works of art, color schemes and, of course, the playlist will be inspired by funk. Expect to listen to James Brown, Bootsy Collins, The Womacks, Sly and The Family Stone and other classics, as well as new acts inspired by these bands. Steen Bojsen Moller (also from Lost and Somerville) supervises the complete bar, which focuses on sprites – some of which are named for funk musicians, their albums and the movements that started.

This particular hill, which debuted in 2023, intended to serve as a pop-up, but due to its popularity, it became permanent. The 6,000 square feet location accommodates almost 200, including a 22 -seat private dining room. At night, the trio previously wore the open kitchen and ample space for catering and events, but knew they wanted to open a full restaurant eventually.

Rae, Hagos, and Relan hope to serve the city center community with a series of experiences: Coffee on Hilltop, Pizza and sprouts at night in the city center, one night and a taco on the roof near Lost – and more projects for Rae and GVO are already underway.

The center mass is launched on May 3 and will open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 18 to 23:00 718 S. Hill St., Los Angeles, Instagram.com/downtowndoughco
