British Chancellor Rachel Reeves supported plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday morning, saying that the project was’ badly needed ‘to’ unlock further growth, increase investment, increase the export and the UK to make more open and more connected. “
In response to the statement, Heathrow Airport “welcomed the support of the chancellor for the aviation industry” and “recognition of the critical role” that the airport plays for the economy and to deliver growth in the UK
“Heathrow is the UK’s gateway to growth and prosperity,” said Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye. A third runway and the infrastructure associated with it will unlock billions of pounds of private money to stimulate the UK supply chain during construction. Once built, it would create jobs and trade, tourism and inner investment in each country. It will also give airlines and passengers the competitive, resilient CEO Airport they expect, while putting the UK back on the map in the heart of the global economy. With strict environmental measures, it would demonstrate that we grow responsibly through our economy, we can ensure that our commitments are made to future generations.
‘This is the daring, responsible vision that the UK must flourish in the 21st century, and I thank the government and chancellor for their leadership. This has given us the confidence to confirm our continued support for the expansion of Heathrow. In order to successfully deliver the project, policy change is needed – especially around the necessary airspace modernization and to allow the regulatory model to be suitable for the purpose. We will now work with the government to work on the expected planning reform and support ministers to make the changes we will put on track to ensure planning consent before the end of this parliament. “
