The construction is underway on Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport at a modern air cargo terminal that, according to local officials, will make it easier for Wisconsin businesses to move goods and internationally goods, but the ultimate success still depends on attracting one or more cargo aircraft that can deliver the aviation.
The speculative project will redevelop a significant part of a former US Force Reserve base in a dedicated 337,000 square-foot cargo building with parking for up to five Boeing 747-400 cargo aircraft and the adjacent taxibane to improve broadbody-jets accessibility.
According to Milwaukee County officials, who are often crowded and have a high user fees, a whole new airfield facility in Milwaukee will be cheaper and more efficient for the carriers in the region, who have to transport County officials and the developer very well.
“If this project is completed, builders and suppliers will be able to transport their raw materials and finished products in and out of Wisconsin quickly and efficiently,” airport director Brian Dranzik said in a news release.
