Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Marlee Matlin always eagerly awaited Sundays.
It was his father’s only day off, so his family made a weekly tradition to meet close friends for breakfast at a local cafeteria. Subsequently, she and her five-year-old family would do an easy activity to do the season-chosen in the fall or a game of Chicago Cubs during the summer, perhaps-ending with a final event they called “Sundays of travel.”

“Sundays have always been my favorite day because I knew we would all be together,” says Matlin, who became the first deaf actor to win an Oscar in 1987 at the age of 21. During our zoom call, she communicated through an interpreter.

“What a better way to have two deaf women who have similar shared life experiences to tell my story?” Matlin says. In the 1980s, she convinced legislators to add closed subtitles to television programming.
Veteran actor and activist is a “California girl” for almost 40 years, but says she will always be a “Chicago girl in her heart.” (The horizon of the neighborhood she grew up, Morton Grove, is proudly tattooed on her forearm.) She is currently enjoying her empty life with her husband Kevin Grandalski. Its ideal Sunday in Los Angeles involves visiting the Academy Museum Museum, enter the Rose Bowl, have a slice of pizza in Eagle Rock and spend a quality time with her 14 -month granddaughter.

6:00: Take care of my pets
If I had the choice, I would probably wake up at 8 am, but as I have a cat, it’s 6 in the morning, I also have a dog that needs to be taken by walking. Like a fool, he barks to all the other dogs we find, and I apologize to each dog owner.
So me You have to have to Have breakfast. I am a breakfast person. I don’t jump. I love my oats with some brown sugar and blueberries. If I’m in a good mood, I will make a turkey bacon and make sure it is more crispy, and I drink my red Bull Sugar without. I know I’ll get a lot of flack because I drink a red bull in the morning, but that’s what I drink. I like my drink, and it’s that simple. I don’t drink coffee. I would like to like it, but I don’t like the taste.
After taking breakfast, I have to make my bed. I can’t even leave home with a broken bed. I have to do the bed immediately, and my husband knows very well.
10:00: Go buy new topics
I can go to Rose Bowl For the flea market, which is open once a month or for a walk. Before having a foot surgery, I always walked through Rose Bowl at least twice out of a total of six miles. I love the walk of power.
Then I would go to some boutiques I like. I am a great defender of small local businesses, so I would pass Tuck in Pasadena and Everson Clare In La Cañada Flintridge. Both are female owned and are very concerned about their customers. Both are very good friends of mine. Both work so much to open their stores. I watched them from their beginning to where they are today. They have different styles of clothing that seems to fit me well. Then there are some stores that I will go to Studio City. 14:00: Choose a favorite activity of
If we are wanting to be active, we will go to Rest Gardens or for one Dodgers game. Recently we went to Art shotAnd it’s so fun. It is similar to Paintball. You create art on a screen while spinning. I just was reelected as the governor of Gym museumSo I’ll make sure to go there. Being governor and member of the gym, they were not so beyond such support for my community and many other sub -reported communities. Everyone who loves cinema or history [and] How films are made should go to the museum. Even if you [do] No, you will be surprised.
16:00: Quality time with my granddaughter
Then I will come home to spend time with my granddaughter, which is 14 months old. We will have the reproduction time at home. She is always exploring. She loves the cat. She runs after her, and I always have to run after the baby. So, the three of us run: cat, baby, then me. I will take you to the park, which is on the street. Being with her is the most important thing. We are very admired to see it grow, exploring the world and watching what it learns. This is the perfect Sunday for me.
18:00: Enjoy a dinner early
I love cooking on Sundays and dinner early. I have a series of recipe books and recipes I printed. I’ll just take this great pile and research it. I’m not someone who does a lot of research. I just choose one and then go ahead. I love barbecue and I love baking desserts. I have a sweet tooth. I set up a candy bar – like a candy bar – in my house. It is dangerous to have a chocolate bar. Wait until my granddaughter grows up enough to realize what the chocolate bar really is.
But if I don’t want to cook, we can go to Bianca House. It is a pizzeria in Eagle Rock. The pizzas, the mozarella and the salads are fantastic. Piccata chicken is great, and the people who have it are just wonderful and welcoming people.
20:00: Backgammon before bed
I’ll spend time with my husband after dinner and let’s clean. So I would check my phone to see what’s coming to the week. Depending on what is happening, I will contact the kids and throw back gammon on my phone – just spend time ending the day. And I’ll take a walk at night. Before closing the store, I have to take the dog once more. I go to bed early. I am usually in bed at 9:30 pm
